Tuva

Prompt: “How might we make school desks and chairs for schools in developing countries faster, easier, and with a better design?” This project started with the limitations of using a single 4’x8’x1/2” plywood sheet as our main material and to use a CNC router to manufacture the finished furniture.

Objectives:

This class project began by choosing a developing country that would need desks and chairs for classrooms that could be made easily and quickly. The country I chose was Tuvalu. Tuvalu is a small island country in Oceana that has one of the smallest GDPs of any countries in the world. Because the island is so small, flooding, and other water challenges were considered when designing my furniture. The finished project for the class was a working desk and chair made from plywood.
