Desk Manager
This project was a study in material and process. The prompt was to make a fully functional product that could be sold as is. No mockups or prototypes, but a ready to be sold product. I chose to make a simple desk organizer that would be a place for storage on anyones desk, while also increasing the overall look of the desk environment. Enjoy the process!
Inspiration
Sketching
Prototyping
Starting with simple cardboard models, then moving to CAD and then CNC cut foam model. The overall shape stayed largely the same, but small changes were made to make it more visually appealing and functional.
Manufacturing
The Desk Manager is entirely made on a CNC Router. After the CAD model is finished, G-code is generated for the computer to follow to cut out the material. The finished machining time 1 hour and 2 minutes. This time could likely be cut in half with more time spent perfecting the feed-rate and cut depth of the tool. Since this is still in the prototyping phase, it was more important to spend time on the design than perfecting the machining code.
Final Product
With some light sanding and gluing the pieces together, the desk manager is complete.
